Sermorelin Care guide
Chapters My notes
Chapter C
Is sermorelin care legal?
A short yes or no hides too much. Ask which product, which pharmacy and which rules the offer relies on.
Approval and compounding are different
As of September 28, 2026, the US has no marketed sermorelin product with FDA approval.
When a pharmacist, physician or registered facility prepares medicine to order, the process is called compounding.
The compounded medicine does not gain FDA approval from that process.
Permission to make a medicine to order is different from FDA approval of that medicine.
Keep them separate when asking about an offer.
Ask what permits the pharmacy to make it
Sermorelin acetate is a particular version of sermorelin, the ingredient used in the old approved medicine.
Federal rules checked on September 28, 2026, may allow a pharmacy with a state licence to prepare that version for a specific patient.
It needs a valid prescription and must meet the other rules for making medicine to order.
The rules count other versions of the ingredient separately, so the full name matters.
Ask the pharmacy for the ingredient’s full name and the rules it relies on to make your medicine.
The FDA documents behind this answer explain general rules; they do not give an ordinary pharmacy permission for sermorelin by name.
State pharmacy law may add restrictions.
Larger medicine makers follow different rules
An outsourcing facility is a larger maker that prepares batches of medicine, often for clinics or hospitals.
As of September 28, 2026, FDA is still reviewing sermorelin acetate for use by larger batch medicine makers.
While it decides, FDA does not plan to take action against a facility for using that ingredient if the facility meets the stated conditions.
That policy is not approval, and the ingredient is not on FDA’s final list of ingredients allowed for these facilities.
Ask who makes the medicine, whether it is a pharmacy or a larger batch maker, and how it meets the rules that apply.
What did the withdrawal mean?
FDA’s March 2013 finding was that problems with safety or effectiveness had not caused sermorelin (Geref) to leave the market.
That finding does not endorse a preparation offered now.
Check the actual pharmacy
Keep this in mind
A past approval cannot stand in for a current product check. Get the preparation’s name, the pharmacy’s name and the basis for its use.
